Why area alone cannot become volume
Multiply square feet by depth in feet to get cubic feet. Divide depth in inches by 12, then divide cubic feet by 27 to obtain cubic yards.
Example: 500 ft² at 3 in deep is 125 ft³, or about 4.63 yd³ before any allowance.
Important limitation
The result is a geometric volume, not a material order recommendation. Compaction, density, waste, delivery increments and project specifications still matter.
